The Rat Race is a 1960 romantic comedy-drama film adapted from the play of the same name by Garson Kanin. and directed by Robert Mulligan . The movie follows saxophonist (Tony Curtis) and a taxi dancer / call girl (Debbie Reynolds) as they are forced to share a tiny apartment while struggling to survive in New York, then eventually fall in love. Debbie Reynolds gives the performance of her career in a role that challenges her spunky persona, while Tony Curtis plays it straight as her partner.
