Song of the Horse is a 1971 documentary film that Akira Kurosawa directed for Nippon Television. Its subject is thoroughbred race horses, including the June 13, 1971 Japanese Derby race. Song of the Horse was Kurosawa’s only documentary film, as well as his only work for television. The man and the boy are voiced by Noboru Mitani and Hiroyuki Kawase, who had played the beggar and the beggar’s son in the director's previous feature, Dodesukaden .
