The screenplay is based on the play Frauenarzt Dr. med. Hiob Prätorius by Curt Goetz, which had previously been adapted for the screen in the German film Doctor Praetorius (1950). The film stars Cary Grant, Jeanne Crain, Hume Cronyn, Finlay Currie, Walter Slezak and Sidney Blackmer.
